Ok all of you who pester me to update my blog, here you go.
Updates:
I did a whole lot of traveling in the past two months, flying all over the place from NY to Denver to Cancun, and boy are my arms tired.
...
Anyway I had a phenomenal month and a half, I will divulge a bit but hello FYI this is public blog, so you don't get to know all my beeswax. That being said, lets start with NY.
New York is amazing in general and I have yet to not be completely blown away by its majesty everytime I enter that city. Weather was suprisingly warm for December and I was slightly let down that it didn't snow, but hey... I could have been snowed in, which would have sucked, so I counted my blessings. My flight was delayed six hours as I mentioned in a previous blog, which pretty much consumed all of our free time the first day. No shopping for me.
The hands on courses were a platform of inspiration for me. Something I really liked about the course is that they used aspects of the city to create the new design concepts for the cuts and colors. For example, the architecture of a building to build the foundation of a haircut or the color progression from a flower petal to establish a color technique.
I also got to know some of the Global Design Team members a little more personally, which is always a plus.
Highlights from the trip:
- Seeing the Rockettes perform. I thought the show was gonna be dumb, but I actually got a little teary eyed at some parts. I know I am lame, but COME ON they had a live nativity scene with THREE camels. Tell me thats not cool.
- Rockefellar Center at Christmastime. Mostly just so I can say that I have been there. The tree isn't as tall as I would have imagined, and it's far too crowded to ice skate, but still cool anyway.
- Finally making it to the top of the Empire State Building. I was always too thrifty in the past to pony up 15 bucks to ride all the way to the top, but this time I did it and it was well worth it. I got some amazing shots of the city from up there (gorgeous at night) but it was collllddd.
- Cheap but damn good pizza and the cute little italian mafia man who served it to us (forghettaboutit)
- Roland the cab driver who took us on a detour to JFK airport through Queens and the Bronx. "New Yorkers don't drink Starburst (Starbucks). I don't need fancy names for my coffee, what color sugar do I want? I don't care honey, for all I care you can stir your finger in it to sweeten it up." ...whoa.
Alright Denver:
A spontaneous trip to visit my good friend Coulter and his dog Loki, who I swear was Chewbacca in another life. I introduced him to scarves and fingerless gloves, and he introduced me to sweet potato pancakes and inspired me to start creating traditional art.
Highlights:
- Imogen Heap show... just omg.
- Denver Art Museum. I'm still in awe that they let me take photos in there. I also stood feet away from real Picasso's, a Lichtenstein, some Monet, and a lot of Warhol.
- Hooked on Colfax. I ended up sitting next to the owner of this cute little coffee shop that Coulter visits daily on the plane who also happens to know the owner of the über funky and hip salon Babooshka. Small world.
- and finally Loki, the funniest dog I have ever met. Too big for anyones lap, but has couch priority any day of the week.
Denver is absolutely gorgeous and amazing to photograph. Too bad we didn't get any snow during my trip, then of course after I leave comes like the biggest blizzard ever. Oh well, next time.
Christmastime:
My brother and his wife Rachel (yes, wife!) stayed with us for two weeks during the holidays. This was the best Christmas gift I could have gotten. I love my brother so much (that's a given) but I don't get much time with him since he is stationed with the Coast Guard in North Carolina. He just purchased his first house (way to go!) and I can't wait to go visit him.
Best material thing I got for Christmas? Tied between Tivo (thanks mom and dad) and my macro lens (thanks Matt!!)
New Year's:
Molotov and I decided to be party poopers and have a laid back welcome to 2007. Uno Tournament + BJ's Pizza (takeout ftw) + beer + marathon of The Office= sayonara 2006.
Cancun:
Considering this was a business trip I didn't get a whole lot of time to lay out or snorkel or anything like that, but we did get all inclusive all you can eat/drink free everything (including room service 24/7) which was awesome and made for some interesting nights and stories to tell. What can I say, the tequila is watered down, but when you have 10 margaritas, does it really matter?
I opted to stay an extra day and dished out the cash to do so, and low and behold it rains buckets all day long. No laying out for me. We went into town to do some shopping and I broke a flip flop running in the rain. So here I was, in my beachy tank top dress and cowboy hat, shell bracelet around my ankle and a half washed off henna tattoo on my foot, drenched from head to toe and splashing in puddles barefoot.... it was a blast.
So yeah, those were my trips...
whew, long blog...
I apologize for the lack of photos. I am lazy.
